Funny story

So, this story may have a little TMI, but deal. :)

Well, last night I had my first official scare/hospital run. Fun stuff, right? Yesterday I began to notice every time I would go to the bathroom that my underwear were pretty consistently a little damp. I didn't really think much of it and changed, but then later in the evening, while at a boat meeting I realized that my pants were wet as well. I went to the bathroom and saw clearly that if anyone noticed, they would think I'd wet my pants!! A few weeks before, a friend of mine had told me that that was how she realized that her water had broken...no gush, just a constant trickle, so that set my mind wondering. I called another friend from the meeting and she advised me to just call the Dr. and see what she said. For about an hour after we got home I tried calling both after hours numbers and got the same message from both "We're sorry, all circuits are busy right now" Needless to say, during that hour I started to panic! Finally I decided to try my luck in calling another OB in town and luckily his after hours number takes me to the same line that MY Dr. is connected to, so she had the midwife, Joanne, call me back. After explaining my issue and the fact that yesterday was the most uncomfortable day, as far as random pains go, she had me go to the hospital so they could monitor me. They ran a couple of tests and found out that my amniotic fluid was NOT leaking, thank God!, I don't have a UTI, but I was having contractions! That's apparently why I was so uncomfortable yesterday. They were minor contractions, but they were 3-4 minutes apart! From what the nurse said it could have gotten worse had I not gone in last night, so thank God again for the, whatever it was, that made me anxious! They gave me uterine relaxers and sent me on my way to follow up with my Dr. at my next appointment, which is next Thursday.

So yeah, we definitely had an exciting night but it was good too. I think the best part of the night was during my biggest panic moment when we couldn't get through to anyone. Derek came over to my side of the bed where I was sitting, hugged me, and just started praying with me. He rarely does things like that...but when he does it means the world to me! What an amazing husband I have.

Could it be I'm falling in love?

Even though I haven't really MET him yet, sometimes I think my son has some of the cutest, funniest tendencies! Today I had my second OB appointment for this month. This is the first of my every other week appointments. It's kind of fun knowing that it's getting SO close!! Many of my friends tell me all the time that they can't believe how fast my pregnancy has flown by...the only thing I can say is, you and me both honey! lol Anyhow, 2 weeks ago I met with Dr. D, and this morning I met with Joanne, the midwife. (Side note, I know I've heard a lot of people have had problems with her, but I just love Joanne! She's sweet as can be!) Anyhow, when I saw Dr. D she was having trouble finding his heartbeat, I guess because he was wiggling so much, but she poke around with the little wand so much that I guess Wesley got annoyed a bit and slugged her one! Of course that made me giggle because not only could I feel the jolt, but I heard and saw it, and the impact just cracked me up! What a silly boy he is! Since that day I've figured out that if I poke a few times he'll eventually start hitting back. So if I'm ever curious as to how he's doing, I just start poking! :) This morning Joanne was having trouble keeping up with his heartbeat! Apparently now Wesley has learned that if he wiggles around enough he can get away from the incessant poking! We both laughed at the fact that she couldn't get a good reading until she pretty much had to try to hold him still. Not easy when the child is still inside the mom! So yeah, I'm learning already that I have a very active son, and I love it! I hope that his disposition is happy and that he's like his daddy in his temperament! If he gets my fire I just may have to give him to my mom for a little while...maybe she can deal with it!! :) Hopefully I've trained her well!

So yeah, all that to say, little Wesley, I can't wait to meet you!! I'm so excited to finally get to know you better and stop making assumptions on your characteristics!!! I love you!!

Our DC Trip

So I don't have my camera on hand to post pictures right now, but this is just an update on our trip to DC.

Derek and I flew up early Tuesday morning so that we could spend some time exploring the city the day before his interviews. It was nice, kind of chilly, but not so cold that we couldn't handle it. We just bundled up and started walking! The only draw back the whole day was the fact that my back loves to hurt. There were several times throughout that I would need to sit just to give it a break! Anyhow, that night we went to bed super early just to make sure that Derek was well rested and ready for the next days tests. Wednesday he left early in the morning to get to his interviews and I slept in. I got the chance to test my lone metro riding abilities to go meet our friend Jill for lunch and a couple of relaxed hang out days! We had such a good time! It was so good to see Jill, Jon, and their adorable kiddos! It's crazy how much Kaitlyn and Miles have grown in just the last 6 months! But let me tell you, Kaitlyn hasn't forgotten a thing! That girl remembers so much from such a long time ago!

I got a call from Derek just after 4 letting me know that he passed PNEO, and I cannot tell you how excited I was. I probably teared up a bit, unusual, I know! So, being that that day was his birthday, the day he passed, and the day we got to see our friends again, there were 3 reasons to celebrate! So celebrate we did, with a birthday cake and Cheesecake Factory. What good times! One thing we LOVE about Jon and Jill is that, like us, they like to play games. So that night we played Monopoly for way too long, until Jill gave in to my awesomeness and let me win! :) (I'll be the first to admit it probably wasn't a fair win...) Anyhow, the next day was just a hang out, relax, and play at Chuck E. Cheese day. Which I'm not sure who had more fun, the guys (mainly Derek) or the kids! Yay for having kids to get us in! :) And more board games that night. I can honestly tell you that I could have stayed there a lot longer just enjoying hanging out with them again, but, my doggy missed me and we had to get home! After trecking to the metro in negative degrees, freezing my lungs, and a little over 2 hours on the plane we got home.

It's nice to be back, but we're only here for a few days before we go again. We're heading to Pensecola on Friday for a quick visit with Brad Kelly and Chandler, Derek's sister and her family. We're super excited about down time with them to just hang out since last time we saw them was a BIG weekend for Chandler and he had tons of company! Kelly also wants to take some belly pictures so maybe I'll have some to update soon!

Anyhow, I'll try to post a few pictures from DC, I didn't take many, sorry!

New Things!

These are pictures of Wesley's diaper bag that I just got embroidered and I got my ring today!! It's really pretty! I love it! (I still don't think that we did anything to deserve this, but who are we to turn down gifts?!) Derek also got a ring. It's one of those tungston, I think, wedding bands! Ha! Now if anything happens to his, we don't have to buy a new one!

Mendy....cooking? NO WAY!

So apparently no one really believes that I cook...testimony number one. My sister made a family cookbook for all the ladies in the family for Christmas. In said book, she called me out! Something along the lines of "Maybe this will show some of us (Mendy) that cooking is an acquired skill". (Did I get it close Rita?) Testimony 2: Talking to my friend Jill on the phone the other night. I hadn't talked to her in MONTHS and yet, when she read on my blog that I got new pots and pans for Christmas she just had to ask "so, does that mean you cook now?!" lol no hard feelings Jill! So that answer is YES! I cook! Derek and I rarely eat out anymore. Only on Sundays, with our BSF class, and maybe once a week for dinner. The reasoning behind this starting off was really to save money, but apparently Derek has seen the greater side of what can come of cooking at home! Apparently, since I've been cooking more often, Derek has lost 8 pounds! He told me that last night and I can't tell you how happy that makes me! So, what's on the menu tonight? Beef stew...yum...and so many veggies!! :)

oh yeah

And my sister is only 6 weeks and 6 days today! She found out in an ultrsound yesterday...yay for late August baby! (nephew)

Strange things are happening!

Long story, sorry! :)

Yesterday I did something quite out of character for myself...which some people explain away as pregnancy related, but I don't know, I think maybe I'm just growing up a bit. Anyhow, my sister in law Amy is being amazing and making some curtains for little Wesley's room, so yesterday I headed to a fabric store here in town to find some stuff for her! As I was pulling into the parking spot, next to me a woman started to get out of the car. Before I came to a complete stop I heard a crunching sound and new that her door had hit the side of my car. Now I know, if someone is getting out of the car you should wait for them before you pull in, but I looked to see if anyone was getting out prior to pulling in and she wasn't. So, anyhow, my window was down when it happened and I looked out as the woman shrugged her shoulders and continued inside! I knew that when it hit it made a mark, there was no doubt, and that the woman would just walk off made me furious! So, I calm down as best I can, and see that indeed, there is paint transfer and small gouges out of my back drivers side door. The 2 women from the car had gone into the same store that I was going into so I decided I would say something about it. I didn't want them to pay to get it fixed, because honestly, it's not that big of a deal, and there were several factors, some my own fault, that played into the mistake. I just wanted an acknowledgement of the fact that my car was hit and a mutual apology maybe? Anyhow, now we'll shorten the story. The lady that was in the passengers seat was the 91 year old mother of the driver. She's kind of oblivious at times and probably didn't realize or understand what happened. So I understood it wasn't any rudeness. Anyhow, Irene, the driver, was adamant that we let her pay for the damages and I told her several times that I couldn't do that. She swore that my husband was going to be furious, little does she know Derek is the easier going of the 2! So, to make her feel better we exchanged information and I told her I'd have Derek give them a call. When Derek got home he was in the same state of mind I was, we weren't that worried about it, so he called and settled it all. He spoke with Irene and made her feel better and then got off the phone. Not 30 seconds later the phone rang again and it was Bill, her husband. At first that made me nervous, but apparently Bill is a nice guy. He told Derek that he wanted to send us a gift because of how nice we were being! What?! Definitely not what we were looking for, but who's going to turn down a gift?! Apparently Bill just recently closed a jewelry store, music to any woman's ears. So he asked what size ring I wear and what color jewelry I prefer and what stones I like. By the third question I was laughing so hard I couldn't answer! I don't know why I just thought it was funny and totally unexpected. So, this is the third incredibly unexpected blessing of the week!
I guess this must be a very teachable time for me, because it seems God's pouring on the lessons these days!!

Time for a change

I decided last night, after a lot of tears from a very hard day, that I no longer needed my facebook or myspace. So if any of you were my friends on either of those, sorry for no notice. I realized yesterday that I have a lot of areas I need to grow in, and both of those were occupying so much of my time and attention that I couldn't do it anymore...I also got way too involved in reading into things that I shouldn't. So, that being said, maybe I'll be better at blogging these days. That's not to say that I'll blog 5 times a day, but yeah...maybe I won't get fussed at much more for how bad I suck I updating!! So...let me TELL you about yesterday!

As you all know, I'm pregnant, that means I cry, a lot. I think that, because I was emotional prepregnancy, I'm ultraemotional during pregnancy! Anyhow, I just got so discouraged yesterday that it had me really down. When Derek and I went to Target to do our 3rd baby registry I was starting to feel better. And that's when the blessings started! As we were scanning on the second aisle, a lady joins us there and asks if we know what we're having. I smiled and told her it was a boy and she congratulated us and continued down the aisle. A minute or 2 later, before we moved on, she turned back to us and says "You know, I don't know if you guys are interested, but I have a little boy, he's 1 and has already outgrown all of his baby things. I was going to load it all up and give it to charity, but if you'd be interested, you could come look at it and take what you'd like! I've got a swing, a bumbo seat, bouncies, those types of things!" I almost burst into tears at that point, but instead I looked at Derek and, beaming, he said "absolutely!". She gave us her phone number, and after I finish up here I'll call her, hopefully on Thursday we'll go down and load up our car full of baby stuff...one time use, and boy themed! I told her how much of a blessing she was, and I don't think she understands. We needed that last night! I needed that...so much! What a blessing to know that there are people in this world that still reach out. I just hope that there is some way that we can bless this family in return!

Anyhow, something else awesome happened before bed! I wasn't going to go to DC with Derek next week because we couldn't afford it. Normally I wouldn't be so sad, except for the fact that going to DC means that we get to see friends that we haven't seen since July! But after talking to Derek, and Jon and Jill, we decided that we can swing it this time. I think it's going to be very important for me to be there with him. I'm so excited about the chance to be a close support and to be waiting for him when he finds out his fate! :) Also, I get to hang out with Jon, Jill, Kaitlyn, and Miles!!! Be jealous! lol

So, all this to say, thank you God. You are indeed the giver of good things. Whether we deserve them or not...usually not, you are our Father, and you delight in us. Thank you for knowing me better than I know myself, and taking care of me in a way that no one ever could!!!

Sometimes I suck at secret keeping,

But sometimes I don't. Like the fact that I'm going to be an aunt again and again. Well, one of them wasn't a secret...Amy announced right after she told the families. However Rita tested my secret keeping abilities to the limit...and then beat me to telling everyone!! JERK!

So yeah, I already have my studman Chandler via my wonderful sister in law, Kelly:

and in just a few months Wesley will have not one, but (at least...dundundun) 3 cousins!! What a blessed baby I will have!!

YAY RITA!! You're going to have a baby...and I've already got (prediction) his first outfit picked out!! :) You'll love it...and so will Kyle!!

Christmas post

Okay, now that I'm finally on the upswing with this whole bronchitis thing I'll post about our awesome Christmas week!! :)

Derek and I started our break with going to visit his side of the family in Kenner. We got there on Saturday with just enough time for a good rest before the ambush! :) If you don't know, most of Derek's Dad's family lives close to Kenner with us as the exception, and we saw most of them that day. It's always a party when the Goebel's get together! (Aucoins too!) We gave and received presents that night from all different directions. Most of the gifts were already for Wesley, I'm sure it's just a preview of things to come...you know, the days when Mom and Dad become just that, and totally lose their identity! :) But I can honestly say I was more than excited to receive every gift! Our "big" gift from Derek's parents was a new set of pots and pans...Mrs. Cathy has been to my house and tried to cook for me with my lidless pots, so they remedied that for us! :) (Side note: I just used them to cook with for the first time tonight and I love them!! :))

Also, on Sunday we all travelled to Baton Rouge for Chandler's baptism. He's the most precious baby in existence (thus far!) Even the priest that baptised him had to laugh when Chandler giggled as he poured on the water. Apparently he loves bath time!! We finished up the trip with Derek's parents back in Kenner, relaxing and eating good food. Then Tuesday we turned around and headed home.

Wednesday morning we loaded up again and headed to Charleston for what would end up being an unforgettable Christmas! (more on that later) I sang at the Christmas eve service that night and finally got to see my best friend for the first time in months! We spent Christmas day at my parents house. Derek got his new favorite toy, a GPS system, from my parents, and I got a new camera that I've been having fun experimenting with (see below post)! Friday afternoon we headed to Georgia (my old hometown) to visit with my extended family. We had a lot of fun there, but by the end I was ready to get home and be done with travelling for a while!

So, here we are. At the end of the trip I came down with bronchitis so I've been fighting with that since getting home. Now today I'm feeling a bit better. It's the first day that I haven't stayed in bed all day! :) We'll count that as a score. Let's just hope that bronchitis on New Year's day isn't a sign of things to come because this year promises to be the most exciting yet!!:)
